Align-A-site aiming with Slimline Dish

I would like to hear from Align-A-site users who are aiming a Direct TV HD slimline satellite dish . Do you level the tripod or do you stabilize the tripod (not necessarily level) and then make the adjustments on the dish to obtain the signal? Thanks Jim

Aiming Directv Slimline Antenna

I bit the bullet and acquired a HDTV for my RV. I purchased a slimline antenna and heavy duty tripod for RV use. I understand that the HD requires more accurate pointing of the dish. The directions that came with the antenna indicate that a in-line signal meter capable of being set at"13 volts with no 22KHz tone" is required to identify the 101deg satellite. In the past,I've used one of the cheap in-line meters to peak the signal and set-up has been a non-issue. Would appreciate any imputs from those of you who are setting the dish up for HD reception. Does it get to be routine or is it a pain every time? Thanks Jim

RE: Oooooppppssss!!! Hey 5er Guys--Check this out!!

Leave the government out of this. You can't teach some people common sense. An accident occurs and we are ready to call for more government regulations. Some of the biggest problems we have today are: Government over-regulation and Lawyers. Life used to be simple before we decided to "fix every problem with regulations" JMHO

RE: Refrigerator caused a fire

Most of the RV dealers have the kits on hand. I just called mine (last year) and set up an appointment. Took a little over an hour for the installation. Zero charge from the dealership. My understanding is that the wattage of the heating element was increased to increase the capacity of the refrigerator and the welds failed from the additional heat. The kit is merely a heat shield and the electrical element is not changed. The dealership had one tech that was assigned full time for just modifications to the Dometic units involved in the recall. My dealer is in Bryan, TX. They work on all brands of RVs.

RE: Installing a second AC unit

I have a 2002 Cardinal that stayed too hot for me at temperatures over 94F. I called Cardinal and they assured me that the vent in the bedroom was strong enough to support an air conditioner. Since this unit has a bedroom slide and the closet is across the front I fished # 12 romex from the closet to the vent opening. I ran a new 20 Amp feedthrough in the front of the 5th wheel. I put a circuit breaker in line in this circuit. I installed a 13,500 BTU Carrier A/C in the vent opening. I hung a pulley in a shade tree and lifted the unit into place with the help of a couple of friends. (Yes that makes me a shade-tree mechanic.) When I am at the campground I just plug into the 20 amp circuit adjacent to the 30 or 50 amp feeds. I use a # 12 extension cord for the connection. When I get to the campground, I turn them both on and cool the unit down. At night I leave the 2nd one off. I also put a 20 amp duplex outlet in the circuit and in the winter time I use it for electric heat. The second circuit is entirely independent of the original and doesn't require any power management. Nothing fancy, but it works for me. Jim

RE: Well, I've reached a major lifetime achievement...what now?

Age is a state of mind. I'm 76 and remarried last month to a 73 year old sweetheart. I still run my air conditioning business and she is a bank officer. We are planning a lot of things to do for the rest of our lives. My glass is always half full - not half empty. You can accomplish most things if you have hopes and dreams and reasonable goals in life. Happiness is a positive attitude. Keep your mind active. JMHO - Jim

RE: Dometic RM2856 Quit Cooling

Thank you wolfe 10. The batteries read 13.71 VDC at the battery terminals and 13.71 at the distribution panel. The battery has been on charge from the landline since I returned from the last camping trip about 12 days ago. It is a new 12VDC deep cycle battery Dometic uses the 12 VDC for the control panel. They will operate at voltages as low as 10.5 VDC. I didn't realize that the freezer portion cooled first. Thank you for your help - Jim

Dometic RM2856 Quit Cooling

I have a Dometic model RM2856 refrigerator in a 2002 Cardinal 5th wheel. It worked fine but I needed to defrost it. I shut it off and opened the doors to the refrigerator and the freezer and let it thaw. I turned it on today and it would not cool on electricity or gas. I tried on gas again just now and it started to cool. (I could feel the unit get hot).
I have 11.95 VDC and 115.8 VAC at the unit. Does anyone have ideas as where to start? Are there manuals available for troubleshooting? I would guess that the problem might be in the control board. I have digital test equipment. Thanks - Jim

RE: 5th wheel sellers

PPL MotorHomes in Houston puts it on their Consignment lot. They will prep it and have sales people on the lot. I believe they have high percent of sales. If you go to their website and follow various units you will see they move pretty well.

RE: an unpleasant experience

I try to always err on the conservative side. I believe they were trying to pull some sort of scam. After all you really don't know anything about them. Good call to pass. There will be legitimate deals come along. JMHO

RE: Now I'm TIRElessly confused

I put 16" BF Goodrich on my coach in January from Discount Tire along with new 16" Chrome wheels. (Replaced 15" Load range D with 16" Load range E) They are LT tires and are stamped "Made in USA" FIW

RE: New & Need Some Help

Isn't it amazing how some people can read a short post and know more about your abilities than you do. I guess your life profile emerges to them and thus they are able to render a final judgment for you. I am amazed by this sheer raw talent.

Super Duty Safety Recall

I have a 99 F-250 7.3 Diesel. I got a letter from Ford this week listing the CPS (Crankshaft Positioning Sensor) as a safety recall. I know many RVers carry a spare CPS "just in case". I bought mine used in 2005 with 60K on it. It has 76K now as all I use it for is to tow my 5th wheel. I have no idea whether it has been changed previously. Has anyone out there had their CPS changed on this program? Have you changed it previously?. Just curious

RE: Just how big a deal is it to set up a 5W?

In my mind it is a non-issue. The outside chores are not fun in driving rain or other inclement weather, however it is doable. On trips overnight stays are no big deal. If we can level without unhooking, we do so, however we do put down the front jacks and utilize them as stabilizers. You can look at it as a chore or consider it a pleasant task ,depending upon your mindset. My glass is always half full. JMHO

RE: Why doesn't any local dealers have this unit?

5th wheel trailers towable by half ton pickup are only a small segment of the market. Dealers put their capital into items that appeal to a large segment of the market. When you go to a campground, it is very rare to see a 5er being towed by a half ton. I would imagine if you go to a dealer and express interest, he would be willing to order to fit your specifications. If a unit appeals only to 2% of the market, it means that out of a hundred people who come on his lot only two are interested in that model. JMHO

RE: Anyone Had Recent Cataract Surgery?

Thanks Everyone. I had my right eye done on January 14th. It was slow to come around but gets better every day. I wasn't sure if I would have the left one done at first, as my left eye was better than the right, however now it is the result I had hoped for. I go back to the surgeon on Friday and will schedule my left one then. Jim
